Magnifying Mirror Mistakes and Buyers Remorse.

Not all magnifying mirrors are created equal and with over 160 manufacturing steps there is ample room for manufacturers to cut corners.

So you need to know what’s important before you buy.

Here are the main reasons your new mirror might end up forgotten in a drawer or drooping unused on the wall.

     ------------------------------------------------------

MISTAKE 1 - The Enlarged Image is Uncomfortable To Use.

    CAUSES:

Image distortion due to imperfections in the mirror surface and shape. This is the manufacturer using cheaper manufacturing techniques and lower quality glass.

Unnatural and Extreme Magnifications can make it difficult to maintain the correct focal distance and keep the image centred. Over time this will cause eye strain and discomfort.

    SOLUTION:

Buy from a trusted and experienced manufacturer. Our suppliers use distortion free crystal glass and scientifically selected magnifications that are sufficient to meet the user’s needs but are proven to be comfortable and avoid eye strain even over many years of use.

    Our 3 Mirror Magnifications

    We stock three magnifications.

3x Standard Magnification - Easy to use and feels like you are using a normal mirror but the image is helpfully larger.

5x STRONG Magnification - Shows a lot of detail from a smaller area of the face. Eg. Just the lips, eyes or eye brows.

7x VERY STRONG Magnification - Incredible detail. Takes a little getting used to.

We now stock a range of dual magnification mirrors. This offers our 3x standard magnification on one side and 7x VERY STRONG magnification on the other.

     ------------------------------------------------------

MISTAKE 2 – The Mirror Doesn’t Hold Position. Really Annoying If You Need Both Hands Free to Apply Makeup.

    CAUSES:

Wobbly or Sagging Mirror Arms – the mirror droops, swings to the side and requires repeated adjustment.

Loose Nuts and bolts – This means repeatedly needing to tighten the nuts and bolts that hold the mirror together.

    SOLUTION:

Buy a recognised brand with a history of quality. Our preferred suppliers have a combined 200+ years experience manufacturing quality mirrors and durable bathroom fittings.

You can purchase from our store the same quality mirrors supplied to 5-star hotels, beauty salons, jewellery shops, perfumeries and department stores throughout Europe.

     ------------------------------------------------------

MISTAKE 3 – Poor Lighting and Shadows.

    CAUSES:

Relying on Light Levels in your Bathroom -  These light levels may be sufficient but often ambient light levels are too low, shadows from overhead lights are annoying and colours will vary depending on the light source when applying makeup, etc.

    SOLUTION:

Mirror positioning to optimise available light (daytime and night time) becomes an important consideration.Consider installing the magnifying mirror in conjunction with a main bathroom mirror that has its own light source.

Seriously consider buying a magnifying mirror with LED illumination. Sufficient light ensures a high degree of extra comfort  and the light surrounds the face and is thus shadow free.

Update: Our newest LED designs also incorporate adjustable colour and brilliance. Controlling light levels and then adjusting light colour to showing the face in either artificial lighting (2700K-3500K) or simulated daylight conditions (5000-6500K).

Note that LED mirrors are more expensive and will need to be hardwired by an electrician but we think they are well worth the extra hassle and expense.

Approx. 1/3 of the mirrors we sell are LED Illuminated.

     ------------------------------------------------------

    MISTAKE 4 – Rust and Mirror De-silvering

Rust - It may take 1-2 years to occur but bathrooms and showers are wet areas and are not kind to materials that rust. Premium manufacturers select rustproof materials for all components in the mirrors construction. Right down to the smallest crew or nut.

Mirror De-Silvering - This is a delamination of the silvering at the back of the mirror surface, usually starting around the mirror edge. Not only unattractive de-silvering can make the mirror unusable and cannot be repaired without replacing the entire mirror surface.

    Rusting Magnifying Mirror

    SOLUTION:

One of the 160+ construction steps our suppliers follow includes sealing the mirror edge and backing to prevent unsightly desilvering.

All our mirrors are manufactured from rustproof chromed brass and stainless steel.

     ------------------------------------------------------

MISTAKE 5 – Lack of Practise.

It you have decided to buy one of our mirrors then problems 1 to 3 won’t apply to you.

Now simply take a little time to become used to your new bathroom aid.

Find your own best way to use your new mirror and enjoy the benefits.
